BIRŠTONAS MUNICIPALITY

    It is the smallest municipality in Kaunas region with total population of 5,000. This is also a resort town, popular tourist destination area, famous because of high quality natural mineral water resources. The main industries in Birštonas are beverages and health care. Most of the companies are operating in tourism related services such as hotels, SPA, health care, and rural tourism. The most famous company is "Birštono Mineraliniai Vandenys", producer of natural mineral water, which occupies a significant part in domestic mineral water market. JONAVA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY

     Jonava is an industrial town with old traditions. The total population of the Municipality is 52,000. The main industries are construction industry, mining, food processing, wood processing and furniture, chemical and textile industries. Being only 16 km from Kaunas (Karmelava) international airport, adjacent to the Via Baltica highway, Jonava has good perspectives in development of different types of industry, such as transport, services, logistics, etc. The main companies are chemical industry giant "Achema" and furniture producer "Baldai Jums". KAIŠIADORYS DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY

    Its total population is 36000. The industry of the District is much diversified. The main industries are food processing and beverages, wood processing, and energy generating. There are two big poultry producers, A. Jakštas printing house, one of the biggest in Lithuania, as well as several furniture, wood processing companies and Kruonis electricity hydro-accumulation station. Moreover, there are several tourist destination places in Kaišiadorys municipality and the most famous one is Rumšiškes Open Air Museum, Lithuanian ethnographic village. KAUNAS CITY MUNICIPALITY

    Kaunas is the major city of the Region and the second largest city in Lithuania with the total population of 361,000. Kaunas is the city with diversified industry and the main industries are electronics, engineering, metal processing, construction materials, chemical, food processing and textile industries. It creates more than 12% of Lithuanian GDP. Having a strong education basis such as Kaunas University of Technology, Vytautas Magnus University, etc., a number of colleges, vocational schools, Kaunas city plays a major role in the economic development of the whole Region and the country. Such companies as Marzotto Group, Kraft Foods Lietuva, YIT (Finnish construction company) Kausta, Kesko Agro (Finland) have chosen Kaunas city as the best location for their investment. KAUNAS DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY

    The suburbs of Kaunas city have a total population of 85,100. The main industries are construction materials, food processing and textiles. Furthermore, Kaunas Free Economic Zone (www.ftez.lt) with the total area of 1000 ha is located in Kaunas district just 7 km from Kaunas city. The Belgian company A.O.I. nv (Antwerpse Ontwikkelings - en Investeringsmaatschappij) has been contracted by the Lithuanian Government to develop the Kaunas FEZ, which has great future perspectives of industrial or logistics development. Another major partner of the Kaunas FEZ is an Irish company Shannon Development. And the most recent project in Kaunas district is "Baltic Logistic City" which will be the biggest logistics centre in the Baltic States with a total area of 12 ha. KEDAINIAI DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY

    Kedainiai is an industrial town with an undergoing project of a new industrial area. The total population is 64,000. The main industries are chemical industry, food processing and textiles. Lifosa, producer of fertilizers is the biggest company in the Municipality. There are also several major food processing companies that produce canned products, grain, sugar, ice cream, etc. located in Kedainiai municipality. PRIENAI DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY

    Its total population is 34,400 inhabitants. The main industries in the Municipality are wood processing and textiles. Pociunai Aviation Centre is one of the most important companies for municipal economy. Another important company "Sports Aviation" designs, produces, tests and repairs glider-planes, and company "Termikas" repairs micro-planes. Prienai is located close to Birštonas resort therefore tourism related industries also have good perspectives in the district. RASEINIAI DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY

    Its total population is 43,000 inhabitants. The main industries are construction materials, food processing, and textiles. Raseiniai municipality has recently attracted significant investment from Scandinavia. Among the best known companies are Lithuanian-Danish-Norwegian company "Litspin", producer of woolen spun yearn, Lithuanian-Norwegian companies "Skorgenes", producer of motor boats and "Norvelita", one of the main fish processing companies in Lithuania. Furthermore, one of the main Lithuanian clothes producers "Šatrija"company operates in Raseiniai. British company Camira Fabrics, producing a wide range of upholstery, as well as company of Austrian capital "Agra Corporation", growing high quality grain crops, are also situated in Raseiniai.
